THE HARDWARE SHOP
Filled to overflowing to re-create the cramped
and crowded interior of an early 20th century
hardware shop. The large assortment of goods to be
seen ranges from pen nibs and gas mantles to carpet
beaters and a hip bath. There are baking and
cleaning utensils, electrical switches, plugs,
coffin plates and locks for the trade.
Here customers could buy straw hat dye, and
farmers called for patent medicines for their
animals. Every hook and shelf was filled, so for
the proprietor to know where everything was kept
must have been quite a problem. If there was a
portion of wall space spare, an advertisement
usually found its way there.
In the rear area but not part of the shop, are
displays of flatirons, sewing machines, and laundry
- cleaning paraphernalia.
