Wheelwright.
Richard "Dickie" Dale is working
on a wooden cartwheel outside his
joiners shop in Eastgate 1953. He
would make a two wheeled flat
cart from scratch, build the
wheels, fit on the iron tyres or
hoops, then give it several coats
of paint before adding
decoration, followed by numerous
coats of varnish. the finished
work of art was then sold and
usually went to Middlesborough
for selling fruit in the markets.
