1927. This Daimler bus was owned
by the United Bus Company and ran
from Lockton, Pickering and
Malton to York. On the right
Eddie Smith can be seen rowing
rowing his boat through the
flood. The Bridge Street signal
box can be seen behind the
railway wall. The old railway
track is now The Ropery Road.

Flood in Eastgate, 7 September
1927. Two lorries pass each other
on the flooded road. The
buildings on the left have since
been demolished to make way for
Orchard Close - Bungalows and the
North Yorkshire County Council
(NYCC) Highways Department have
built a pedestrian crossing, just
in front of the two lorries.

in the floodwater, the only sure
way of crossing was by horse and

A milk collection lorry, part
of the Acey Group, drive through
floodwater on the road at
Newbridge, in the 1960's. The
lorry was owned by L. F.
Robinson, haulage contractor of
Whitby. The aluminium cans or
churns were collected full and
empty ones were left in exchange
at the farm entrance each day.
