PHOTO GALLERY - Wartime pictures

Mrs Norah Kirk, wife of Dr J.L. Kirk (founder of the Castle Museum in York) is seen with hat and coat, sitting in the middle of a group of wounded soldiers during the First World War, at One Oak, Hallgarth. The house was established as a Red Cross Hospital in April 1915 and was still open in 1919. Mrs Kirk was the matron. The premises continued in use, as a doctor's surgery until a new surgery opened on the Ropery in the 1970s.
