PHOTO GALLERY - Wartime pictures

Pickering Territorials are seen relaxing in the Avenue Field close to the castle, before leaving on 6 August 1914 to take their place in the First World War. Hundreds of people assembled as they marched to the railway station, under the command of Lt W. Vause and Sgt Instructor F.C. Sherwood, to join the battalion in Scarborough.
