Pickering Territorials are seen
relaxing in the Avenue Field close to the
castle, before leaving on 6 August 1914 to
take their place in the First World War.
Hundreds of people assembled as they
marched to the railway station, under the
command of Lt W. Vause and Sgt Instructor
F.C. Sherwood, to join the battalion in
Scarborough.
