This opened top bus owned by Robinson's of Pickering (later to become Ryedale Coaches) is about to leave the cattle market at the top of Eastgate with a group of passengers from Kirkbymisperton.

This open topped coach is about to depart from the top of Eastgate. This was such a momentous events that even in the rain a crowd has gathered. The coach was part of the North Eastern Railway fleet, based in Scarborough. The Low Hall can be seen on the left and the Police Station is on the right. Picture By: Sidney Smith.

Sidney Smith is seen with his children Barbara and Eddie and their Morgan three-wheeled car. When Sidney Smith drove his Morgan up Saltergate Bank, it travelled slow enough to enable his children, Eddie and Barbara, and their cousin Freda Rogers, to jump out of the car and climb back in as the car was moving. It proved a great game for the children, if a little dangerous.

Pickering loco sheds in Hungate - now a joiners shop. the engine is a class G5, 0-4-4, owned by British Rail.

the railway crossing at Mill Lane on 21 January 1953. The goods train has stopped to allow signalman Jack Pape to hand over the token. The Scarborough line closed for passengers in 1965 but remained open for freight, to move limestone from Thornton Dale Quarry, until 1966. The line and signal box have since been removed.
