William Scales stands in the doorway of
his shop in Park Street in the early
1930s. The lock - up shop on the left was
occupied by Ben Lyon, tobacconist, and the
shop on the right was occupied by Jack
Goodall, painter and decorator, who lived
above the premises . There is a clock in
the case to the left of the shop, the
hands of which were set manually to
indicate the departure of the next bus to
the villages. The buses parked opposite
the shop, in Park Street.
