from Newbridge, is pictured in 1902. The
names of only three men are known. The man
at the bottom right is Charles Henry
Nicholson, the man standing with leather
gloves and pads on is John Smoth, and
lying down in front is Albert Snowdon.

thought that the team played on a football

A Pickering Methodist Sunday School
outing in 1913. The children in the
picture were being taken on a picnic
treat. The rulley pulled by the two horses
is about to start off from outside the
Methodist Church in Hungate with its load
of about thirty boys, along with other
horse drawn carts carrying the girls and
adults. They would travel past Newbridge
and onto Park Gates to enjoy games and a
picnic tea, before returning home to

This farm wagon pulled by two horses
decorated with flowers and horse brasses
is filled with ladies in their best hats
and dresses. It is passing the top of
Pickering Market Place for a day's outing.
The photo was taken soon after 1912, the
year in which T. Johnson's grocery shop
was extended and the thatched roof
replaced with tiles. The driver is Teddy
Eddon from Stape.

from outside the Catholic Church on Potter
Hill, some time before 1912. Marshalls
joinery shop and entrance into their yard
can be seen in the background. Local
dentist, Harry Place, is in the driving

This may have been held at the Central
Hall, which later became the Central
Cinema and is now an auction room. The
lady at the front right, holding a tea
cup, is Mrs. Madge Johnson. The man with
the moustache on the right is Charlie
Turner - who used to wind up the church
clock. the man on the left of the man
holding a paper to his lips is Arthur
"Codge" Frank, a huckster who lived on
Potter Hill. The lady to the front right
is Nora Smith who later worked at the
Central Cinema playing the piano and as an
